On 28-Feb 2015 I had purchased an Apple iPhone 5s (Space Grey, 32 GB) on the Amazon India Website using my HDFC Credit Card using the 6 Months EMI Option. The purchase was made from the seller Cloudtail India Pvt Ltd. At the time of making the purchase, there was an offer going on by Amazon wherein it was mentioned that if an iPhone 5s, 32 GB would be purchased from Cloudtail by 28-Feb-2015, then Amazon would send a Gift Card of INR 4,800/- to the registered email id of the customer. This offer was clearly displayed on the product page before proceeding to the ‘Buy Now’ option.

Since there were technical glitches on the Amazon website at the time of purchase, I was initially also skeptical of the transaction and decided to write to Amazon to get a written confirmation that the gift card would be made available. Accordingly on 6-Mar-2015, I received an email confirmation from Vxxxy M of the Amazon Customer Service team who confirmed to me that I was eligible for a Gift card of INR 4,800/- and the same would be send to me by 31-May-2015. On 8-Apr-2015, I also received a snapshot on email of the Gift Card scheme applicable for the transaction from Rxxxu S stating the conditions for receiving the Gift card and explaining how I was eligible for the same.

When 31-May passed and I still did not receive the Gift Card, I send a mail to the Amazon Customer Service team to update me on what the issue was. After repeated follow ups, finally on 17-Jun 2015, I received an email from Nxxxj from the Amazon Customer Service team who informs me that the Gift Card was not eligible on the transaction made by me since I had purchased the 32 GB variant. Even though I tried explaining that the scheme was applicable on my purchase and shared a copy of the emails send by their Customer Service team confirming the schemes applicability, the only response I received was that the information provided by their associates earlier were incorrect. They also send across a table (which was typed) which covered each and every iphone (Including the iPhone 4s) sold by them except the iPhone 5s 32 GB variant and used that as proof that the scheme was not applicable for my transaction.

There appears to be a clear malicious intent by the Amazon team to avoid providing the Gift Card. I assume they would be reaching out to other purchasers of the iPhone and stating that the scheme is applicable on all models except the one that they would have purchased.
