Arbitrary SIM deactivation by Vodafone

I am writing to tell you that Vodafone does nothing to retain your long term customers! I don’t know what company policy are they guys following that made them put out my existing Vodafone number in the market! I was using that number past 8 years. I am on a vacation out of India and had asked my brother to use that number in the mean while. He was recharging and switching on that sim every single month since April 2015. Last he did that was on 2 July and now what I am hearing is the ive lost that number! It has been deactivated and put out in the market! According to their company policy, if a number isn’t switched on for 2 months, they deactivate it and put it out in the market. My case isn’t nowhere similar to that. And it’s just not fair. Now my brother is told to buy that sim for RS 899 as a post paid connection but he cannot buy it as the owner of the sim is supposed to do so. Unless the owner of sim( me) isn’t present, they won’t give new post paid connection. I am feeling cheated! I want them to give my number back to me.
