Now that Windows 10 has been released and users have started getting notifications for downloads, one could face some hitches in downloading and installing. The OS is released as an upgrade and not as a downloadable file. There is a separate download page provided by Microsoft and you may need the key to activate it. Any existing users with OS Windows 7 SP 1 or Windows 8.1 qualify for the download. The most common issue was getting stuck while downloading or installing. The size of the total file can be anything between 2.6 GB to 3.5 GB size. At a speed of 512 kbps, it takes about 12 hour to download the file in India. There are complaints that the download bar gets stuck at one place for hours. This can happen during installation also, after downloading the OS. Users will be at a loss as to how to go about as stopping the download would mean starting the process again. The issue I faced was the installation process got stuck at about 25%. Even after three hours there was no improvement so I decided to take the risk of shutting restarting the system. Lo and behold, the system started installing the downloaded upgrades and proceeded to download the remaining upgrades. So I could complete the installation in the next half-an-hour without any issues.
So if you are stuck during the downloads or installation you may try restarting the system. Do it at your own risk.
