i would like to know whether poultry and livestock feed comes under consumer product. I also like to know the law government to regulation of the quality of the poultry and livestock feed.

  1. We have not come across any cases regarding poultry feed. But, in our opinion, poultry and livestock feed can be covered under consumer dispute though this is not, in strict sense, a consumer product.

    The Consumer Protection Act defines ‘consumer’ as any person who buys ‘goods’ for a consideration …….and includes user of such goods other than the person who buys such goods…….

    But a person who buys goods (or avails services) for commercial purpose is not a ‘consumer’ unless he can establish that he has bought the goods or availed services for his livelihood by means of self-employment.

    As per Sale of Goods Act, ‘goods’ means “every kind of movable property other than actionable claims and money, and includes stock and shares, grass and crops…..”
