I had purchased a Voltas 3-Star Split AC from Flipkart in June 2016. As printed on the main box of the AC, the manufacturing date was Nov 2015; despite the same, I decided to accept the product since warranty was applicable from the date of purchase (as communicated to me by Flipkart).

However, while unpacking, I was shocked to see that the 3-Star Rating (as rated by Bureau of Energy Standards for energy efficiency) is valid from the period Jan 1, 2014 to Dec 31, 2015 – this implies that for a product sold in June 2016 the Star Rating for the same at the time of sale was expired which is a gross misrepresentation by Flipkart.

Despite repeated communications with Flipkart on this issue (via telephone as well as email), they have refused to take return of the product citing flimsy excuses such as product specifications are as mentioned on the website – they are completely ignorant of the fact that the Star Rating of the product sold by them is expired!

In fact, Flipkart is blaming this significant oversight on the seller ‘Voltas’ since they claim that they are just a marketplace and cannot be held responsible for this slip-up. This is despite the fact that the product was sold by ‘WS Retail’ which as per Flipkarts’s claim have the so-called Flipkart Advantage and are quality checked, stocked, packed, and shipped Flipkart. I don’t think that happened in this case.

I have made several requests to Flipkart to take return of the product but to no avail. I also want to highlight that I had purchased 2 split ACs, 1 of which had a Star Rating validity from Jan 1, 2016 to Dec 31, 2017 and am duly using that AC.
