Defect Product delivered by local seller

I had a purchased a revolving executive chair from a local seller. He verbally promised me that the chair comes with 1 year of warranty. But when it was delivered it had damage and soon I reported this to the seller who assured me for replacement. He told me to visit his shop the next day to choose other chair as a replacement but the there were no good choices available and he asked me to come after two days as the new chairs will be brought. After two days I visited his shop but he told me to come after two days. Again after the visit he told me to visit his shop after a day or two and I did so. After selecting the new chair he promised me of the delivery by the next day morning but he failed to do it. Even after three days he didn’t turned up and then I decided to send him a notice. I drafted it and sent it by RPAD. After he got the notice (which he didn’t collected it) he rushed to me for settlement. But I denied his offer as the refund is without compensation. Provided the fact that he turned up for settlement and I denied it, do I still have the merits to approach the forum? Kindly let me know.

PS: At the time of settlment, I came to know that the one who sold the product was not the owner of the shop but the employee.
