I am filing this grievance to seek your kind intervention in securing a full refund of ?15,270 from IndiGo Airlines for a flight I was forced to cancel due to ongoing security threats in Jammu and Kashmir.
I had booked a family trip to Jammu Tawi that included:
A flight from Kolkata to Delhi
A train from Delhi to Jammu Tawi
A return train from Jammu Tawi to Delhi on 26th May 2025
A return IndiGo flight from Delhi to Kolkata on 27th May 2025
Due to recent drone incursions and Indo-Pak tension in the Jammu and Pathankot regions, we were compelled to cancel our travel for safety reasons. As a result, we cancelled our train from Jammu to Delhi, which directly impacted our ability to take the connected flight from Delhi to Kolkata. Hence, the flight became unusable.
I reached out to IndiGo requesting a full refund under humanitarian and force majeure grounds. However, there has been no favorable resolution despite the clear link between our cancellation and the prevailing national security threat.
The refund is fully justified due to the following reasons:
The flight was part of an interconnected travel plan. The cancellation of the Jammu–Delhi train made the Delhi–Kolkata flight impossible to board.
The cancellation was caused by verified national security issues including drone activity and rising Indo-Pak tensions — a clear force majeure situation.
Passengers acted responsibly in the interest of personal safety, and airline policies should account for unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances like these.
We are not seeking compensation or favors — only a rightful refund for a service we could not use due to safety concerns beyond our control.
As per DGCA guidelines, airlines are expected to adopt a fair and flexible approach in genuine cases like this.
